MK Friends of Milton Keynes Hospital & Community

We have been working in Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH) since 1979, when we founded the League of Friends of Milton Keynes Hospital.

When the name changed to MK Friends of Milton Keynes Hospital & Community, it enabled items to be raised for patients out in the community as well as the hospital, such as the Ambulance Service, local GP Practices, and outside physiotherapy departments. We are an independent charity supporting patients, families and the community of Milton Keynes University Hospital who are sick, infirm or in need of assistance. Since 1980 we have raised £3,500,000 which has purchased over 1,000 items including the hospital’s first CT Scanner. Most recently we have purchased 22 chemotherapy treatment chairs and 22 televisions for the new Cancer Centre.

The MK Friends shop is in the hospital on level one in the blue zone. We are ideally located for the wards, and provide hot and cold food, drinks, and many other items. The Trolley Service which goes around the wards every day, except Christmas Day, allows patients to buy items such as newspapers, magazines, toiletries, snacks and cold drinks. Also, our volunteers hold a charity stall within the hospital on Thursday mornings either in the Main Entrance or outside the MK Friends Shop.

Our shop and ward trolley are run by members of staff together with a dedicated force of volunteers. The support of our volunteers is greatly valued and appreciated. If you are interested in volunteering with MK Friends of Milton Keynes Hospital & Community send us an email at [email protected] or call 01908 904034. Alternatively, call in to the MK Friends shop and pick up an application form.
