Endoscopy Unit

The Milton Keynes University Hospital Endoscopy Unit is JAG Accredited and provides a wide range of both diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures.

Milton Keynes Endoscopy services are provided in two different locations.

  • Milton Keynes Hospital
  • Whitehouse Diagnostic Centre

Between the two units there are 6 endoscopy rooms. Each unit is different in size and design, but all share the same philosophy of good patient care, equipment, and leadership structure.

The Endoscopy unit is a training, teaching and research active department which is fully equipped with endoscopes and associated equipment.

The Unit was last JAG accredited in 2019 following a peer review site visit. Accreditation is based on satisfactory demonstration of all aspects of patient experience, quality, and safety of the procedure, training, and workforce.

The philosophy of care for the Endoscopy Units at Milton Keynes is:

  • To deliver individualised patient care maintaining autonomy and independence for our patients within a relaxing and welcoming environment.
  • We recognise the individual rights of all our patients as well as those of their relatives and carers and will ensure all our patients are well informed, allowing them to make informed decisions regardless of age, gender, or disability.
  • We will ensure that all our patients are treated with dignity and respect with an emphasis on ensuring privacy at all times.
  • We will audit the effectiveness of the Unit by monitoring care and standards of services against clearly defined quality standards as part of the quality assurance process and the Trust Clinical Governance process.
  • We will support and develop a team of professional staff who will work together to deliver high quality care for our patients.  We will ensure that all staff have the opportunity to keep their knowledge and skills up to date to provide best practice for all our patients and for the team; in doing so we are committed to supporting the training and professional development of staff.
  • We will provide the patients and their relatives or carers with all the information they need for their ongoing treatment and the support available for any care requirements following their discharge.
  • We will ensure high standards of health and safety to provide a safe environment for staff, patients, relatives, friends and carers and any visitors to the Unit.
  • We will encourage feedback on our services and will utilise this to improve the standards of patient care provided and to offer a high-quality service. There are a number of ways to provide feedback including NHS Choices, the Trust’s social media, our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS), sending letters and cards.
