Patient Stories – Jaxxon

“Jaxxon was unexpectedly born at 32+2 weighing 4lbs 8oz. After a quick delivery but long labour, he was born and had difficulty breathing. He was taken to NNU where he was placed on a ventilator and our journey began. We then discovered he had 2 bleeds on the brain, hydrocephalus, and was having seizures.

Jaxxon needed to be transferred to Oxford where we stayed for a week for review and monitoring with the Neurosurgical team. When we were on our way back to MKUH, in felt like we were coming home – back to the unit we’ve known since day one and familiar faces that become our comfort.

Whilst on NNU, we were shown and supported with so many daunting things like holding, feeding, changing, and doing medication for our tiny boy. This was the scariest time of our life made much easier with the support and comfort we received by all staff and the facilities available on the unit.

The team also provided support to my parents who were then able to support us better.

At 37+5 weeks, after a 38-day hospital stay, we felt confident and at ease for discharge home and to start our new family life.”
