Introducing the MKUH Patient Portal

Date: 30/04/2018

Milton Keynes University Hospital has introduced a new system – the Patient Portal – that will enable patients to manage their own appointments and view appointment letters online.

The Patient Portal will initially focus on outpatient appointments. It will allow patients to better manage their visits to the hospital via their smartphone, tablet or computer.

Currently we only have a small number of services whose patients can use the Patient Portal; also known as MyCARE. The service is only available to people aged 18 years or over, but we are constantly adding new services. We are also looking at how we can provide a service to younger people.

Eligble patients will be sent an SMS message to their mobile phone, inviting them to use the portal and instructing them as to how they can access details about their appointments.

Whilst many Trusts are providing patient portals, Milton Keynes is the first NHS hospital to provide the ability for people to directly manage their appointments solely online without needing to call the hospital.

In time, the hospital hopes to enhance the portal. Providing options such as going paper-free and giving patients access to more of your electronic hospital record.

We will bring you more details as we continue to develop the service.
