Adult in-patient survey 2023

Date: 22/11/2023

The 2023 adult in-patient survey is coming up.  The survey, overseen by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) on behalf of the NHS and coordinated by Picker, is part of a national programme to improve patients’ experiences while in hospital.

Feedback from patients is critical and is used by Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH) to understand the things we do well, as well as areas where we can make improvements. Patients are eligible to take part in the survey if they were treated as an inpatient at our hospital over the last few months.

Patient participation is randomised and eligible individuals may receive a questionnaire from Picker from 1st December 2023. They will be asked about various aspects of their care, including the quality of care and treatment, communication with staff, information provided about the care and the environment of facilities.

Results from the survey will be used to inform how we deliver care and services to patients in the future and form part of dedicated action plans to ensure progress is monitored effectively. As a result of the feedback from the last survey, the Trust has committed to:

  • Increase the inpatient survey score in relation to communication with friends and family by 10%
  • Improve patient satisfaction regarding noise at night by 20%
  • Enhance discharge experience for all patients (reflected in increase in inpatient survey score by 10%)
  • Increase the overall patient satisfaction score by 10% compared to the previous year

These actions will be achieved through various programmes, including targeted training and development initiatives for staff, increasing collaborative working across specialities and by working closer with underrepresented patient groups to improve how we communicate with our diverse communities.

Responses to the survey are confidential and the results of the survey will be presented in a form that does not allow any individual’s answers to be identified.

If you have any questions about the survey, or would like to provide any feedback directly to the Trust, please contact the Patient and Family Experience team – details as follows:
