NHS App – New features available

Date: 02/12/2022

The NHS App is fast becoming the digital ‘front door’ to the NHS, with new features for patients to view and manage their hospital appointments directly through their smartphone.

These new features will be available for MKUH patients from Tuesday 6th December 2022 where patients will be able to view all of their primary and secondary care appointments in one place, creating a single point of contact for their appointments where they can access supporting information and book, change or cancel their hospital appointments.

The NHS App already includes a range of functionality for users, including the ability to: order repeat prescriptions; book GP appointments and online consultations; view their GP health record; get their NHS COVID pass; and manage their first hospital or clinic appointment with a specialist when they are referred by their GP, through the NHS e-Referral Service (e-RS).

At MKUH, our MyCARE patient portal is already widely used by over 125,000 people across Milton Keynes.  Our patients are still able and encouraged to use the MyCARE patient portal which offers more functions such as enabling patients to view and change appointments, view discharge summaries, add appointment reminders and view test results through the Apple Health app (iOS only).

To make it easier for our patients to access their MyCARE account, we recently upgraded the platform so that individuals can use their NHS login to sign in. Enabling patients access with the same NHS login that they already use for their GP and other NHS services will makes the portal even more accessible.

The upgrade to the NHS App service nationally means that more patients will be able to benefit from these services, as well as have a single point of contact for all appointments across primary and secondary care.
