National update to neonatal families regarding the Thirlwall Inquiry
Following the convictions of former neonatal nurse Lucy Letby, the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) announced a statutory inquiry into the events at the Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. This is called The Thirlwall Inquiry and began on 10th September 2024.
These appalling crimes were the actions of a single individual, which shocked and sickened all who work in the NHS. This case is, however, a stark reminder of how important it is that the NHS listens carefully to the concerns of patients, families and staff.
We know that having a baby can be very worrying for parents and recognise that building trust is a key part of that partnership. We know that when we work with parents, together we can provide the best care for babies.
We want everyone to feel safe and confident to speak up if they have any worries at all about their baby’s care.
If you have any questions about the inquiry, if you have any questions or concerns about the care we are providing, or you need to raise a safety concern based on the care provided at Milton Keynes University Hospital, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS). Contact information for PALS is as follows:
