MKUH celebrates its 40th birthday! – we want your memories!

Date: 12/02/2024

We are excited to announce MKUH is celebrating its 40th birthday this year. With an increased demand from the local community to establish our own district hospital, MKUH was finally opened in November 1984. Since then, it has increased in size and infrastructure, providing multiple services to the ever-growing population of Milton Keynes. In honour of achieving this milestone we would like to celebrate the hospital and its wonderful achievements. To mark this 40th anniversary we plan to hold a series of events between April and November.

We want to focus on the main thing that has led to the hospital’s continued success – its people.

We wouldn’t be here today if it wasn’t for our exceptional staff who dedicate their time and effort to improve patient care and experience. We would also like to commemorate the past, present and future by showcasing a series of images of how much the hospital has changed, what it looks like now and where its headed.

This year we’re asking staff and volunteers to cast their minds back to the early days. We’re looking for your memories all the way back to 1984.

Are you one of our colleagues who was born here in 1984 and are also turning 40 this year? If so we’d love to hear your story.  Or do you remember working here in the early days when many of the corridors were carpeted and the walls painted the then very fashionable shades of yellow and green?!

We will be posting more about the events taking place for MKUH@ 40 over the next few weeks. We’re hoping to develop a number of MK People stories that we can share over the next few months. If you have any old photographs from the time when the site was a fraction of the size it is today, then do let us know. Send your memories to [email protected] and one of the team will get back to you.
