FAQ’s
Fitness for Work Letters/Sick notes
If you need a Fitness for Work Letter (often called a sick note), please ask the doctors during your consultation, as it can be more difficult to write out a letter for you later. If you are replacing or amending a previously issued sick note, you must bring the previous note with you as we cannot issue more than one sick note at a time for a patient.
I’ve hurt myself outside of Milton Keynes
If you have had an accident out of area, (outside of MK/on holiday/abroad etc) you must get referred to us via your GP or through A&E. Please do this as soon as possible to ensure timely treatment and follow up.
Can I fly with my injury?
Some casts and injuries may make it unsafe to fly, but there are many that can be safe to fly with. Factors like the type of injury, duration of your flight and the kind of cast you have will influence whether you are fit to fly. Speak with the fracture clinic team during your consultation, who can advise you based on your specific situation. It is also important to contact your airline directly. Depending on the outcome we can give you a “fit to fly” letter, which will advise that you are or are not fit to fly, and whether or not your cast has been split to allow flight. If you are unable to fly, you may need this letter for any travel insurance.
What is a PIFU? (Patient Initiated Follow Up)
At the end of your treatment, the doctor may tell you that you are “going on a PIFU”. What this means is that we are placing you on our Patient Initiated Follow Up scheme, and that we are not discharging you immediately, but we are not making any further appointments for you. A PIFU will last for a stated duration, usually a few months, and in this time if you feel that you need to be seen again in clinic as your symptoms are not improving or are worsening, than you can make an appointment by calling 01908 997050. For more information please see PIFU WEBSITE. If you require urgent medical attention, you should contact your GP, NHS 111 or attend A&E if you are really unwell.
Location
We are located in the yellow zone in Outpatients. We are most easily accessible from the main entrance of the hospital. If you turn right after entering we are well signposted and just a minute’s walk from here. If you cannot walk, there should be wheelchairs available at the entrance. If there are no wheelchairs or you are unable to push the chair, please speak to main reception who will arrange a porter.
The nearest car park to the Fracture Clinic is the main visitor multistorey car park opposite the main entrance.
