Milton Keynes University Hospital shortlisted in HSJ Digital Awards 2023

Date: 05/04/2023

Milton Keynes University Hospital (MKUH), in partnership with Induction Healthcare Group, are delighted to be shortlisted for the ‘Empowering Patients Through Digital’ Award at the HSJ Digital Awards 2023.

The coveted HSJ Digital Awards recognise and celebrate digital transformation across the NHS, with this category specifically highlighting the projects, solutions and services that are driving tangible improvements in access, experience, and outcomes, and that display solid evidence of co-production with patients and service users.

The Trust has been shortlisted for our MyCARE patient portal which allows patients to have greater control over their care journey, providing access to their medical records, including lab results, medications, procedures, allergies, conditions, vital signs, and immunisations. Crucially, MyCARE enables patients to manage their appointments online, offering the flexibility and convenience that patients need.

The platform, which was developed with Induction Zesty, was launched in 2018 and over the last five years has continued to grow, both in terms of popularity amongst patients as well as the functionality available. Patients are now able to view appointment letters and discharge summaries, receive appointment reminders and iOS users are able to view test results on the Apple Health App.
More recently, the Trust integrated the national Friends and Family Test (FFT) feedback through the MyCARE portal, making it even easier for patients to provide their feedback on the care and experience they received. The increased responses allow the hospital to understand where we are performing well as well as where the areas for improvement are.

Joe Harrison, Chief Executive at Milton Keynes University Hospital, said “To be recognised by the Health Service Journal as part of the Digital Awards is a fantastic achievement and one that we are all extremely proud of. At MKUH, we are passionate about enabling our patients to have a greater ownership over their care and our MyCARE patient portal allows individuals to have a consolidated view of their health records.

“We know there is always more we can do, and we will continue to work closely in collaboration with our staff, patients and partners to develop the platform further.”

Christopher Samler, Executive Chair at Induction Zesty, said “It is an honour for Induction to be recognised with Milton Keynes University Hospital by the Health Service Journal as part of the Digital Awards.

The strong 5 year working partnership between our two organisations has been focussed on the MyCARE patient portal and has paved the way in the design of patient portals for many trusts across the UK. As a result, we believe that we provide the optimum solution in support of outpatient care pathways that enable patients to have more control and choice in how they manage and receive their care information. Simultaneously we reduce administration costs, improve productivity of perioperative pathways, and reduce missed appointments.

Both Milton Keynes University Hospital and Induction are excited about future co-developments and look forward to making a material difference to both NHS staff and patients.”

The HSJ Digital Awards will be presented on Thursday 22 June, 2023. To view the full shortlist, please click here. To find out more about our MyCARE patient portal, visit our website.
