Enhancing Data Quality in Healthcare through Professional Development
Katherine Page – PTL Validation Support Administrator
I am responsible for validating referral to treatment (RTT) pathways for data quality. This involves collaborating with various systems within the trust to ensure that patient pathways are processed accurately in accordance with the Patient Access Policy. My work is crucial in maintaining the integrity and efficiency of patient care processes.
Data Technician Level 3 Apprenticeship
I pursued a Level 3 Apprenticeship as a Data Technician over a period of approximately 15 months. This qualification was completed alongside my current role, with dedicated study hours allocated for my coursework. The apprenticeship involved producing a portfolio of work-based projects, which were assessed through an interview and a practical exam.
My primary motivation for undertaking this qualification was to enhance my data skills and discover ways to make my work more efficient. I recognised the importance of data accuracy and wanted to contribute more effectively to my role by acquiring advanced technical skills.
Gaining professional accreditation
Completing the Level 3 Apprenticeship has been extremely beneficial. I achieved MBCS RITTech status, which opens opportunities for further studies at higher levels. Additionally, I gained confidence in using new skills such as SQL and advanced Excel, which have significantly improved my performance in my current role. These skills have enabled me to handle data more efficiently and accurately, ultimately benefiting the Trust’s operations.
I would highly recommend similar qualifications to others. The knowledge and skills gained through this apprenticeship have been invaluable, and the opportunity to progress further in the field is a significant advantage.
