Diabetic Eye Screening and Bowel Cancer Screening teams out and about in the community
The Diabetic Eye Screening and Bowel Cancer Screening teams at Milton Keynes University Hospital have attended a series of health promotion events across MK, reinforcing the Trust’s commitment to improving community healthcare.
These events, held throughout October and November, brought expert clinicians and the engagement officer face-to-face with members of the public, providing valuable information on the importance of two important screening programmes to prevent vision loss and detect early signs of bowel cancer.
The team hosted stalls at:
- The MKUH Community Health Event at Unity Place, central MK
- Morrisons superstore in central MK
- West Bletchley Community Centre and Bletchley Library
- The Healthwatch Diabetes Awareness event, MK
The team answered questions and offered distributed educational materials. Attendees were encouraged to participate in the screening programmes and were informed about the hospital’s other screening services.
Debra Parsons, Screening Engagement Officer at MKUH, said: “We’re thrilled to have connected with so many people in MK. Awareness and early intervention are key to preventing complications, and these events allowed us to empower the community with knowledge and resources. Both screening programmes look forward to continuing these efforts, ensuring that every resident has access to the care they need to live healthier lives.”

This outreach is part of the Trust’s broader mission to foster community health through proactive care and education.
The events at Bletchley Library and the West Bletchley Community Centre were part of the Bletchley Get-Together series of events, organised under the Bletchley Pathfinder initiative, a multi-agency initiative aimed at improving the ways our health and care services work together. The Milton Keynes Health and Care Partnership plan to use the learning from the Bletchley Pathfinder to develop new ways of working across the city.
