Mr Richard Craig

Mr Craig is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist interest in the treatment of shoulder and elbow conditions.

His areas of expertise include the treatment of complex upper limb injuries, shoulder and elbow arthritis, disorders of the rotator cuff tendons and shoulder impingement, frozen shoulder, shoulder instability, ulnar nerve entrapment, and tendon problems around the elbow. Mr Craig provides a full range of treatments including non-surgical treatments, arthroscopic (keyhole) operations, and open surgery including joint replacement. He works closely with colleagues in the radiology and physiotherapy teams to ensure patients have access to the correct diagnostic tests and rehabilitation.

Mr Craig completed his undergraduate training at Imperial College, London, and his surgical training on the Oxford/Thames Valley training rotation. His posts included extensive training in upper limb surgery, major trauma, and a rotation in the Oxford sarcoma unit. His fellowship training was completed at the respected shoulder and elbow unit in University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire.

During his training, he undertook a three-year research degree as the National Joint Registry/Royal College of Surgeons research fellow at the University of Oxford. He used routinely collected data from national datasets to better understand the outcomes of shoulder and elbow replacement surgery. He has published a number of important papers in the field.

Mr Craig strongly believes in the importance of providing information to patients to help them to reach a shared decision about their treatment.
