New Radiotherapy Centre

An architects impression of the Radiotherapy Centre

Project Status: Under construction, due for completion in Summer 2024

Construction work on our brand-new Radiotherapy Centre is now underway. The new Radiotherapy Centre, which will be located adjacent to the Cancer Centre, will complete the cancer services offering available at MKUH, improving access to healthcare for Milton Keynes residents.

Currently, patients in Milton Keynes have to travel to neighbouring hospitals for Radiotherapy treatment, with Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) being the local specialist site. This new facility, which is being delivered in partnership with OUH, will ensure patients will no longer have to make long journeys to receive their care, enabling them to have their treatment closer to home.

Once complete, the Radiotherapy Centre will house a state-of-the-art medical linear accelerator (Linac) bunkers and will include a main reception, consultation rooms and a CT scanner area. Direct internal access from the Cancer Centre will also be available, allowing patients to move between the two facilities as part of their treatment.

Throughout the construction period, there will be some disruption to access. We will work closely with our contractor Morgan Sindall to minimise any disruption as much as possible.

Here is a little look at how work is progressing on site.

Radiotherapy Charity Appeal

Layout 1

In April 2023, Milton Keynes Hospital Charity launched its Radiotherapy Appeal to raise over £500,000 towards a wellbeing care hub for the Radiotherapy Centre.

Further to the great benefit the new MK radiotherapy facility will bring to cancer patients, the hospital’s ambition is to offer those receiving cancer treatment at MKUH more than just the clinical care they need. Through the vital work of the hospital charity, the Trust will be developing a purpose-built space away from clinical areas that can offer patients much-needed wellbeing support. The launch of the Radiotherapy Appeal and ongoing contributions from our local community will enable the delivery of this ambitious project.
