New Radiotherapy Centre
Project Status: Completed May 2024, due to open Winter 2024
The new Radiotherapy Centre, which is due to open in Winter 2024, is located adjacent to the Cancer Centre and will complete the cancer care services available at MKUH.
Currently, patients in Milton Keynes have to travel to neighbouring hospitals for Radiotherapy treatment, with Oxford University Hospitals (OUH) being the local specialist site. This new facility, which is being delivered in partnership with OUH, will ensure patients will no longer have to make long journeys to receive their care, enabling them to have their treatment closer to home.
The Radiotherapy Centre will house a state-of-the-art medical linear accelerator (Linac) bunkers and will include a main reception, consultation rooms and a CT scanner area. Direct internal access from the Cancer Centre will also be available, allowing patients to move between the two facilities as part of their treatment.
Radiotherapy Charity Appeal
In April 2023, Milton Keynes Hospital Charity launched its Radiotherapy Appeal to raise over £500,000 towards a wellbeing care hub for the Radiotherapy Centre.
Further to the great benefit the new MK radiotherapy facility will bring to cancer patients, the hospital’s ambition is to offer those receiving cancer treatment at MKUH more than just the clinical care they need. Through the vital work of the hospital charity, the Trust will be developing a purpose-built space away from clinical areas that can offer patients much-needed wellbeing support. The launch of the Radiotherapy Appeal and ongoing contributions from our local community will enable the delivery of this ambitious project.
